Some Words of Weather Wisdom

"If the week starts with a shower of rain... then it will end on a Sunday".

A Bit of Frisian Wisdom

Frisian is the second official language of the Netherlands and I thought it fun to use the many traditional Frisian sayings as the inspiration for a quick illustration. The original saying is, "Foar de kofje net eamelje", which translates (very) roughly as, "Don't bother me before I've had my morning coffee."

I've gone one step further - "Ek nei de kofje, net eamelje" -  "And don't bother me after my coffee, either!"

A Tribute to Suske and Wiske

A bit of a tribute to Willy Vandersteen's "Suske and Wiske" characters, also known in English as "Spike and Suzie". Drawn in my own style, just for fun!

The Great Aquaman - Lori Lemaris Race

Young Jimmy Brownstain (a.k.a. "Skywalker_75") is pictured below, using the newest technical methods to prove once and for all that Lori the Mermaid is faster than Aquaman. He plans to (self) publish his findings soon.

And Again - "The Pie-Face Prince"

I enjoyed making the previous drawing so much I thought I'd give it another go.

George Carlson's "The Pie-Faced Prince of Old Pretzelburg"

Been re-reading "Perfect Nonsense", a collection of work by the artist and illustrator George Carlson and was inspired to draw a picture of perhaps his best-known creation -  Dimwitri, the Pie-Faced Prince. His comics are like none other - non-stop adventure full of visual puns and strange characters. His work has been an influence on my own and "Perfect Nonsense" is a lovely book that I keep coming back to.

Nothing in My Hands...

Besides drawing and music, I've had a life-long interest in close-up magic. I loved it as a kid and it's been a hobby of mine on and off throughout my life. The past five years or so, I've been spending more and more of my free time reading magic books and practicing tricks. I particularly like cards, but also enjoy the occasional coin trick.

I remember one of the first books I ever bought was Jean Hugard's "More Card Manipulations". I was around 13 or so, and it was a bit beyond me - but I loved the illustrations, which were done by Nelson Hahne. He illustrated many magic books and had a wonderful bold and expressive style, but it was always clearly rendered.

Inspired, I thought I'd combine my two interests and try my hand at a few drawings. I'd love to one day illustrate a trick, a book or lecture notes - it'd be a great experience, I think.
